I recently read an article on Baekdal.com, authored by Thomas Baekdal, about launching social media profiles that was spot on. Many companies start a page with nothing or little on it, which is much like opening a store without anything in it. Of course no one is interested in staying or connecting when there is nothing to see.
For that reason, Thomas suggests waiting until a brand has 50 posts before making the page public. For blogs, he suggests having 15-20 posts before launching. Here’s an excerpt:
“Never launch an empty page. It’s just like in the physical world. When you open a new shop, you fill it with your products and you give it life and a story, *before* opening it to the public.”
The reason consumers connect online with brands is often because they see value in the information and offers being shared. Without a sizable list of posts, a consumer cannot determine what the interaction is going to be like, what types of resources will be shared and just how involved the brand will be.
